CCS McLays

The founders identified that there was no consolidator within Europe focused on retail and recognised a demand that was not being fulfilled and built a solution to satisfy this. Timing was not on the side of the business and as a young and rapidly growing organisation, it was hit hard by the 2008 financial crisis. As a result, it weathered the storm which proved to be a compliment to the robustness of the business and its people.

Success Factor

Within the last three years, CCS McLays has been awarded several major contracts with larger retailers. It has also acquired further warehouse facilities within South Wales in order to continue operating at a time of fast growth. Additionally, it has purchased a warehouse facility in Greater London and continue to stock hold and distribute GNFR from its hubs in Germany and China. Finally, entrance into the food and catering and pharmaceutical sectors of the retail industry has allowed it to diversify the overall offering and enables the firm to maintain sustainable competitive advantage.

The Future

CCS McLays is well positioned for growth within the next five years and has invested heavily in IT infrastructure, improvements to its online ordering platform for clients and quality people. It will also continue to benefit from increasing warehouse facilities and logistic capabilities with a global reach. As part of a joint venture with IG Design Group, it has moved into packaging manufacturing to create environmental packaging that is made in Wales.
