adeo Travel

Darryl Walters had worked in the travel industry and specifically in the inbound sector for several years after his graduation from university. Working in the group and coach travel sector, he found that clients appreciated the reassurance of travelling with a local guide but that coach-travel itineraries were too rigid, not allowing them to stay in the types of accommodation and visit the destinations they preferred. Spotting an opportunity to service this market, Darryl and his partner Matthew established adeo Travel with the aim of offering the best of all worlds namely carefully planned, well-structured itineraries customised to the client’s needs along with local, knowledgeable support and advice. adeo Travel overcame several major challenges in the first three years of trading which included understanding and complying with the various industry regulations surrounding package travel in Europe, creating a website on a budget, establishing new industry relationships with no proven track-record and developing in-house systems to assist in the operation of this unique business model.

Success Factor

adeo Travel has achieved rapid growth for three main reasons. First of all, it services the in-demand niche of providing tailor-made travel for independent-minded travellers but with local destination support and knowledge. Secondly, whilst the firm is web-based, it ensures that customer-service is at the very forefront of its offering which has gone against the recent and ongoing trend in travel industry which has seen the continued closure of high-street travel agents and a move to online booking engines which provide little human interaction and customer support. Finally, it has designed bespoke IT systems which help staff to deliver services to customers in an efficient and timely manner. This is supplemented by continued investment in staff to familiarise themselves with the UK as a destination for international visitors.

The Future

There are lots of exciting plans to continue growing adeo Travel into the future. Immediate plans include an extensive development of its product offering with the aim to enhancing its tailor-made product by sourcing new and unique accommodation and tour partners and to expand its rail touring product by integrating more transfer and touring products to the basic packages. It also has plans to further develop its branding and to launch an entirely new vein of touring product in the near future.
