Starting the business was a long-standing ambition of the directors built on the belief providing excellent customer service and exemplar work to create repeat and new orders would be the foundation for building a successful and sustainable business. The directors recognised that there were significant funding streams coming into Wales and the UK at the time and realised that being able to benefit from these funding streams would enable the company to also give back to the communities of Wales by being part of the construction programmes for new public amenities as well as business premises. Furthermore, by creating a solid order book and customer profile this would enable the company to expand and recruit local skilled and unskilled trades people, again benefiting the communities of Wales and South Wales.

Our main challenges when starting the business

During the formative years, the diverse skill sets and knowledge required to run a successful small to medium sized business proved a major challenge which required a great deal of energy, enthusiasm, commitment and time from the management team and staff to establish the company into the reputable and trusted organisation that it is today. Early growth of the company brought many challenges which needed to be overcome such as moving to larger premises, significant investment in new vehicles and equipment, extensive recruitment, training and management of new staff, as well as the massive challenge of cash flow management to support larger contracts as the company became more successful.

Success Factor

TPS360 is now in its second phase of fast growth. Having quickly established a strong and growing reputation for delivering flooring systems to the highest industry recognised standards and working on some of the most prestigious and sought-after contracts in the UK such as the Airbus A400M Hangar at RAF Brize Norton, The Welsh Museum of Life at St Fagan’s and throughout Rolls Royce manufacturing sites across the UK. To improve on this position, the directors have further expanded the business by introducing additional services such as surface preparation, levelling screeds, drainages systems, hygienic wall systems and cold stores, concrete repairs, waterproofing and general project management to complement its core work and to provide clients with a more holistic approach to their building needs. They are now able to offer clients, working with a network of subcontractors, complete building solutions which has opened many new opportunities for the business. By creating a close working relationship between TPS360 and clients and by ensuring an understanding of their individual business needs has been a key factor in the success of the business. This, along with the flexibility, hard work and willingness of its workforce to continually go "the extra mile" in order to meet increasingly tight and demanding deadlines, has resulted in the continued growth of the business and expanding customer base.

The Future

The company is committed to staff development and employs its own support staff, technical staff, tradespeople and construction operatives and providing them with long-term career prospects in the industry. It invests in and train all employees to ensure their qualifications meet industry recognised standards, which in turn enables it to provide a high-quality service to clients and enables the firm to meticulously plan work programmes and tenders, again enhancing the service to clients whilst increasing the quality of the finished product and overall customer experience. All employees are and will be multi-skilled, and able to undertake projects in both refurbishment and new build projects, which not only increases the employees’ job satisfaction, but allows the firm to react quickly to client’s needs. The business will be developed through additional investment in people, equipment and facilities and build on the strong relationships and opportunities to undertake larger and more complex works as the company continues to expand.
