Origins

Having stemmed from a removals background, the directors wanted to create a new lead generation service with a strong focus on helping removal companies access new customers in their local areas and to ultimately grow their businesses. They also wanted to ensure that home movers could find professional firms to move them as well as provide a wealth of useful information and moving advice. From a personal perspective, they wanted to challenge themselves and create a business that would lead the way in digital innovation in an industry that hadn't completely embraced the online marketplace.

Our main challenges when starting the business

The major challenges were building an effective digital online marketing strategy; establishing a network of quality, checked and verified removal companies and maintaining strong working relationships with each of them; developing an appealing, seamless website experience for users; and making the move from outsourcing much of its work to building the strong, talented in-house team the business has now.

Success Factor

The main success factors have been developing a strong online digital presence, brand and website user experience; working with the best people both in terms of effective outsourcing to quality local agencies and companies, as well as building an in-house team of talented staff; and striving to innovate and continuously improve the online experience for users and delivering a constantly improving service for the partner network.

The Future

The main plans for growing the business over the next five years are to add extra comparison features for those looking for the best conveyancing and surveying services. They will also be providing packing materials via an e-commerce facility on site. At the same time, the firm will grow current services focusing on office and international removals and looking to increase its network of partners that provide these specific services. It will grow its affiliate programme where services are integrated through other websites that share the same or similar audiences. This allows partners to improve their offering as well as provide more leads and revenue for Compare My Move. It will expand the team by recruiting further sales, marketing, designers and developers to push and support continued and predicted growth over the coming years. It will grow partnerships and will look to add and develop more to both grow brand appeal and reputation. It will build a recognisable brand both within the industry and in the general public, and when people think ‘Removals' they will think ‘Compare My Move'. It will increase marketing and advertising through online methods and look at new avenues to market its services including video, TV, print and social media. Finally, maximising data value as data sharing is a massive market and the business aims to take advantage of this by monetizing the very specific data it collects through its site.
