SL Recycling

From its humble beginnings, Stacey Lewis - the founder of SL Recycling - had an aspirational views of future expansion and progression to broaden the firm’s offering while maintaining values. The firm now proudly offers the total package of waste management through in-house processing, skip hire, recycling and consultancy and where before it used to broker out contracts, SL Recycling now has control over costs which ensures customers get the best deal.

Success Factor

Founded in 2016, SL Recycling began with its Ystrad Mynach site acting as a scrap yard. The firm purchased metals from manufacturers and quickly discovered a gap in the market namely that these customers wanted a reliable one-stop shop hat would handle all their waste and metal needs. Customers wanted one point of contact, clear paper trails, high standards of service, compliance, and most importantly, a fair price but no one could offer it all. SL Recycling now fulfils those wishes, presenting a comprehensive waste management service meeting the criteria of customers. Through investing over £10 million in equipment, machinery, vehicles and skips, infrastructure and expansion of the team, the Ystrad Mynach scrap yard has become a waste transfer station and the firm’s newer site - a material recovery facility at Pontypool - has enabled the business to take on a large portfolio of customers from a variety of sectors across South Wales. Other key success factors have been the implementation of ISO 14001 and 9001 standards, continuous investment in people, infrastructure and plant, and competitive pricing.

The Future

The firm’s growth is testament to its dedication to recycling and making waste matter. It continually strives towards zero-waste-to-landfill, exploring Best Alternative Techniques and maximising recycling solutions, currently recycling approximately 92% of all the materials it handles and focussing on diverting from landfill. In the future, SL Recycling will continue to invest in infrastructure and people with the aim of growing its customer base throughout South Wales and eventually further afield.
