The business was founded in 2007 by Robin Modak who had seen the potential for managed services whilst working with GE Healthcare and, later, Rothschild Bank where he worked with several leading medical equipment manufacturers to finance their equipment. He recognised a niche in the market for a vendor neutral managed services provider as, at that time, managed services were being offered mainly by original equipment manufacturers. He then enrolled the help of three former customers all of whom had significant business and medical device experience and the four became the founder directors of Genmed.

Success Factor

The firm’s growth has been driven by gaining access to NHS frameworks for vendor neutral managed services providers as well as expansion into less traditional areas such as managing operating theatres which has resulted surgery and endoscopy contracts making up half of company revenues. Genmed has also recruited well and has a core of ‘Genmed people’ who share the company vision and values. Many of these people have grown with the company and are prepared to go the extra mile to for the company and the customer and their drive and enthusiasm has been a major factor in the rapid growth achieved by Genmed.

The Future

The senior management team has developed a five-year plan that will take Genmed to a turnover in excess of £700m and the journey to achieving the growth target has already begun through the establishment of a commercial services division that will be a procurement and supply chain total solutions supplier. The operations team is also being strengthened to enable the provision of consistently high levels of customer service.
