Origins

After an extended experience of receiving very poorly selected flexible staff from general recruitment agencies, whilst in the Waste and Recycling sector, Nathan Bowles saw an opportunity to set up his own agency that could do a much better job, that really knew its stuff in terms of a strong working knowledge and experience of the Waste and Recycling sector and provide much more accurately selected and prepared labour, reducing staff churn increasing productivity, profitability and staff welfare. The plan was, and still is to use the same model across a growing number of sectors, over a growing number of regions, to develop a sustainable, modern business that responds quickly and easily to our clients business and labour requirements and create the best possible working conditions for our permanent and flexible workforce.

Success Factor

The key factors for growth are careful staff selection - people who are bright, ambitious, hardworking with on the ground, specialist sector experience; strategic deployment of geographical office locations to expand business footholds throughout the UK; honest, transparent and straight-forward approach to customer solutions and care; and quick responses to changes in customer requirements.

The Future

The plans for growing the business over the next five years are a continuation of organic growth through adding sector coverage by engaging sector specialists, further extension of service centre coverage across the UK and overseas and extending its offer of workforce training to our client base, through its training brand Smart Development. At the same time, Smart Solutions will also utilise its current financial position to begin considering strategic business acquisitions as well as developing the company's IT systems into one of the UK's leading integrated ‘turnkey’ recruitment business solutions.
