Established in 1999, the venture was initiated because there was a gap in the market as the founders felt there was nowhere in the region which supplied new sportsboats and cruisers. The most significant challenges at start-up were acquiring qualified staff and getting planning permission for suitable premises from local authorities.

Success Factor

The three main success factors for DEVA Marine were acknowledging and responding to a gap in the market; acquiring distribution rights to the major brands; and, most importantly, responding to customer needs. The creation of the website and the high quality of promotional material has also been instrumental in driving forward the growth of the business.

The Future

The future plans for the business include the acquisition of further premises and development of workshop facilities. The firm also intends to employ and train more local people and develop online internet shopping for its retail division
